I completed a 13 week summer internship within the Finance department at Eurotherm by Schneider Electric in Worthing. I worked closely with various members of the finance department on a number of projects which ran simultaneously. The primary project that I was involved with concerned a transfer pricing exercise, whereby I analysed historic sales data in order to provide information on the company’s real margins and the trend of price and cost changes. I helped to provide this information to the global financial controllers via video conferencing, also being fortunate enough to present the findings of the project to the senior leadership team during my penultimate week with the organisation. I was pleased to work in an autonomous environment whereby you could manage your own workload.
During my first week, I was warmly welcomed to the company and introduced to members of the organisation from numerous different departments. I was asked on my second day to become a member of the Eurotherm running group, which proved to be a great way to meet colleagues and socialise with them. With much support this resulted in us competing in the 5 mile Goodwood Hill Climb event and I am now looking forward to meeting up with them next spring for the Schneider Electric Paris Marathon.
I found the positive collaborative nature of working at Eurotherm to be like a family and an incredible place to work, I was quickly made to feel like a valued member of the team. They even helped me find accommodation when I moved to the area. Upon the completion of my double bachelor’s degree programme, I hope to return to Eurotherm to complete another internship. I would strongly recommend any other university students to enquire about opportunities at Eurotherm, as it was an incredible eye-opening experience which allowed me to develop a number of soft skills.
