Getting Ready for Work

Investing in young people for the future

Through real life hands-on experience of the working world we help students make informed choices and open doors to the future.

Get Involved

WORK EXPERIENCE: 14–16 year olds can apply for a week’s work experience at our site in Worthing.

  • During your work experience week you will:
  • Design, build and solder a printed circuit board (PCB)
  • Write C code to interact with fan, lights and sensors on the PCB
  • Design a case for the PCB using CAD then 3D print the outcome
  • Assemble the parts and have a basic working controller
  • Give a short presentation about the project to internal staff

HELP FOR SCHOOLS, COLLEGES AND IN THE COMMUNITY:

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths – subjects that are key to the development of next generation ideas in all areas of technology and engineering)

We have a number of STEM ambassadors who recognise the need to encourage young talent and so offer their support at local events and schools.

We support Brighton Science Festival and sponsor a prize at Big Bang South East every year, these are events that engage with young people making science FUN. We also support code clubs in local schools.

CODE CLUB: A global network of free coding clubs for 9 – 13 year olds. Click here https://codeclub.org to find information on local code clubs. If you don’t have a code club nearby, you can explore projects available on the site to try at home.

EDT: (Engineering Development Trust) Is a nationwide education charity providing opportunities for young people in STEM subjects. For more detailed information see https://www.etrust.org.uk/young-people
